The first book in the Molly DeWitt Romantic Mystery Series, Hot Property introduces Molly DeWitt, a recent divorcee and single mother who recently moved from Miami to the wealthier enclave of Key Biscayne in hopes of finding a safe home for herself and her son, and far from the violence of the Miami cartels.

Rather than the peace and quiet Molly had hoped for, trouble seems to have followed her. Right after Molly moves in, she finds the body of Allan Winecroft, the highly disliked condo president, in the card-room of her new apartment complex. But Molly’s luck turns from bad to worse when the knife in Allan’s back proves to be hers and soon finds herself as the prime suspect. Molly must rely on handsome, homicide detective Michael O’Hara to clear her name. And if he can’t help her, then she’ll just have to find the killer herself. But there is an undeniable chemistry between the two, and Molly soon finds herself giving her heart to Michael O’Hara…

Hot Property The Molly DeWitt Mysteries Book 1 edition by Sherryl Woods Romance eBooks

I am afraid I have a problem with ditzy female amateur detectives who throw all caution to the wind because they can't stop snooping, especially one who has a child. Of course the premise being that no one else could ever figure out who did it without her help. I don't notice any stories of ditzy male amateur detectives but maybe I just haven't run across them. At any rate I got tired of Molly swearing to the "hunk" detective that she would stay out of it and turning around and snooping anyway, and guess what she got into trouble and almost got killed. Sorry but this is a scenario that I can't buy. Unfortunately, I also purchased Hot Secret and am trying to get through that one as well. Will not be purchasing anymore of this series.

Hot Property The Molly DeWitt Mysteries Book 1 edition by Sherryl Woods Romance eBooks Reviews

This was a lighthearted mystery novel that was a fast read and very enjoyable. Molly DeWitt gets herself into the middle of the mystery by discovering the stabbed body of the victim. She is warned away by the detective investigating the case but of course does not stay away. She also falls for said detective which is nice for both. The case finally resolves itself with a twist.
The idea of the story was humorous - especially to those of us who live in a condominium environment. It amazes me the anger involved in condominium politics. And the author is so right in how petty everyone is.

The hero and heroine are potentially an attractive couple with all the right vibes, but the author failed to make the hero real. She does an excellent job with our heroine, but I can't get a feel for our hero. This is particularly true during the interview scenes. There our hero fades away.

She tells us that our hero is a highly respected police detective and that our heroine is a personal assistant/administrative assistant in the county office for the Film Industry. But consistently, we see our heroine taking over the role of the Detective and the hero lets her.

The author can't convince me that this is logical. Her reasoning just doesn't do it for me. Essentially our heroine is just plain nosy and that is not sufficient motivation. This is a murder case. Our amateur should be forced into taking action due to circumstances, not from nosiness - she has a young son, for heaven's sakes! And the police department, i.e., our hero, Letting her conduct interviews - nope - not logical - talk about polluting the evidence, etc.

But what I really can't buy into is a single mom, running around trying to solve a murder under threat and having an eight year old son totally dependent on her and him scared to death his mother would be killed.

It was at that point that I couldn't take it any more. What Mother would be so irresponsible. If my son and I were in that position, I would be more interested in keeping the two of us safe than sticking my nose in where I am not even trained to be. The whole idea makes me shudder.

My opinion young children do not belong in plots of even comedic murder mysteries if there is even the tiniest threat of danger.
I enjoyed the story but nothing prepared me for it just stopping! None of the reviews even mentioned the abrupt end of the book. If I had known it was a part one, not a stand alone book. I would not have purchased it. I don't like being held hostage, forced to purchase a second book to find out what happens. Will the second book end the same way? I understand there is a third book in the series. I've often read a stand alone book and then bought the rest of the books in that series because of the main characters. That was my choice, I wasn't left hanging. I WILL NOT BE READING ANY MORE OF THIS AUTHOR. THERE ARE TOO MANY MORE GOOD SERIES OUT THERE WITH STAND ALONE BOOKS; IN FACT, MANY CAN BE REAL IN ANY ORDER. THOSE THAT CAN'T, THE AUTHORS WARN YOU.
THERE ARE ACTUALLY FOUR BOOKS IN THE MOLLY DEWITT SERIES
NELL REED
This is different type of book for me from this author. Molly is funny, quirky, a woman used to taking care of herself. She is divorced and a single mother of a precocious 10 year old boy Brian. She seems to find trouble and dead bodies easily. Her inquisitive and stubborn nature cannot be denied. There is a hint of romance, that does not go beyond some flirtation and a few kisses. There is is lot to the story that was left out, that could have made this story even better. I guess the author wanted to hook you to buy other books from the series. Overall a good read and I recommend it.
I enjoyed this mystery for the most part. I thought the writing was clear, concise, and easy to read. Very enjoyable and the plot moved at a nice, quick pace. The setting was lovely, and Molly was a fun protagonist. I didn't really like the detective she worked with on the case. There were hints of romance throughout the story, but when it became clear that Michael was flirting with her but also very involved with his live-in girlfriend, I lost interest in him. No amount of good looks can make up for infidelity.
This book and the others in this series by Sherryl Woods were a disappointment. In my opinion. Books 1,2, and 3 of the series were so boring that I almost stopped reading them; however, book 4 was more interesting. These books were not up to the quality level of her other series such as "Chesapeake Shores" or "Sweet Magnolias". The Molly DeWitt Mystery series was very similar to the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Both of the two series have a hyperactive sexually attractive female with an on again/off again cop (always a "hunk") for a sometimes boyfriend. The woman is bent on solving the mystery or crime, gets into trouble and has to be saved by the cop.
This must be one of Sherryl Woods' earlier efforts. The heroine, Molly DeWitt, is really Molly the dimwit. She continually puts herself and her son in danger for what appears to be nothing more than curiosity and the desire to one-up the police detective whom she has a crush on. I see there are 3 other Molly books, but I won't bother reading those. Ms. Woods has written much better books than these.
